Raising awareness and funds for Parkinson's UK

Julie Dobson and Rachel McQueen are good friends who live in Lancashire and have a few things in common. Our kids go to the same school, we share a love of good wine and great food, we walk together (not as often as we should). And both of our mum's suffer from Parkinson's.

It is an illness which many people have heard of, but few really understand, unless they have been directly affected. Parkinson's is a progressive neurological condition. This means that it causes problems in the brain and gets worse over time. People associate it with the elderly, but young people can get Parkinson's too. Currently, there is no cure.

Parkinson's UK has been working for decades to fund ground-breaking research into the condition, but perhaps more importantly, to support the thousands of people in the UK suffering from Parkinson's. Devastatingly, we found out earlier this year that Julie's mum has stage four cancer. Julie asked her whether she should look to raise funds for cancer research instead, but Geraldine was adamant. No, Parkinson's sufferers need all the help that they can get. So here we are.

Another thing we have in common is that we don't do things by halves. No tombolas or bake sales for us. We are lucky to know lots of amazing people who have helped us put together this incredible gala dinner. We can guarantee you that it will be a night to remember. We wouldn't do it otherwise. Please buy a ticket (or better still, a table!), and please tell your friends. With much love and many thanks.
